These festive cookies are perfect for Christmas parties, cookie exchanges, gifting, and serving alongside your favorite holiday desserts. Among the many popular Christmas recipes, these easy-to-make vanilla cookies are also an excellent finger food for Christmas gatherings.

Ingredients

  • For the Cookies
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 Premium Madagascar Vanilla Bean, split and seeds scraped

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • For the Decoration
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tbsp milk

  • Red and green food coloring

  • Christmas sprinkles

  • Edible silver or gold sugar pearls

How to Cook

  • Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the vanilla bean seeds, egg, and vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Wrap the dough and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to make it easier to roll and shape.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • Roll the chilled dough to about ¼-inch thickness and cut into Christmas shapes such as stars, trees, bells, snowflakes, or gingerbread-style figures.
  • Arrange the cookies on the prepared baking tray and bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  • Mix the powdered sugar and milk to make a smooth icing. Divide it into portions and add red or green food coloring as desired.
  • Decorate the completely cooled cookies with icing and Christmas sprinkles, then allow the decoration to set before serving.

Additional Tips

  • Use Premium Madagascar Vanilla Beans for beautiful vanilla specks and a naturally rich holiday aroma.
  • Do not overbake the cookies; they should remain lightly golden around the edges.
  • Chill the dough before rolling to help the cookies retain their Christmas shapes.
  • Store decorated cookies in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
  • These cookies make excellent Christmas finger food and can also be packed into festive gift boxes.
  • For a more traditional Christmas cookie platter, serve them alongside gingerbread cookies, shortbread, fruitcake, and other festive treats.
